Security Deposit Policy

How much the deposit hold is, what it can and cannot cover, and when it is released.

This policy text is a placeholder pending review by the company's attorney. It describes how the platform is configured to operate and will be replaced with the approved legal text before launch.

What the deposit is

The security deposit is a temporary hold on the main driver's card, not a charge. We place it at pickup. The amount depends on the main driver:

  • $250 for drivers 25 and older
  • $500 for drivers under 25
  • $100 for drivers 25 and older who have completed 3 or more rentals with us with no damage reports

A few vehicles carry their own deposit, shown on the vehicle page. The amount that applies to you is always shown before you book.

Which cards can be used

Use a credit or debit card in the main driver's name. With a debit card, the held amount comes out of your available balance until the hold is released. Prepaid and gift cards cannot be used for the deposit. On rentals longer than 7 days we may renew the hold during the rental so it stays active.

What the deposit can cover

Only charges that come from the rental itself: fuel or charging, late return, cleaning or smoking fees, tolls and tickets, miles over your allowance, and extras or rental time added during your rental.

We never use the deposit for damage to the vehicle. Damage is handled separately, as our Damage Policy explains.

Release

If nothing is owed, we release the hold within 72 hours after you return the vehicle. Your bank may take a few more business days to remove the pending amount from your statement.

When charges apply

We take only the amount owed from the hold, release the rest and email you an itemized receipt, which you can also see in your account. Tolls and tickets can arrive weeks after the rental. If one arrives after the hold is released, we bill it separately and send you a receipt.
